Licensed Providers and Associates
Hello, I am Melissa (she/her) and I received my M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University in 2010 and in 2020 I received my PhD from Capella University in Advanced Studies in Human Behavior.
I am currently licensed in the State of Oregon by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and am also a National Certified Counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors. I am also a state of Oregon recognized supervisor for other mental health counselors looking to receive their licensure.
In my practice and with my supervisees I use techniques from all models of therapy and supervision because no one person responds to the same technique. I have been providing therapy since 2009 and started with children, adolescents, and intellectual and developmentally disabled populations but found my passion with adolescents and young adults. My other passion is treating individuals who have experienced trauma in their lives and is something close to my heart, but that does not stop me from treating other disorders as well.

Hello! My name is DJ Maurer (he/him), and I graduated with my master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling at Eastern Oregon University. I feel deeply privileged to join you on your journey here at Align Counseling.
Life can be incredibly challenging at times, and it’s not always easy to navigate those moments alone. My counseling journey began with leading grief support groups for individuals who have lost loved ones. This experience sparked my passion for helping people navigate various life stages, challenges, and identity concerns. As an LGBTQIA2S+ provider, I am committed to providing affirming, inclusive care that fosters a therapeutic environment where you can explore and express your true, authentic self.
I specialize in supporting clients through anxiety, grief, trauma, and identity exploration. While I have experience working with teens, young adults, and adults, I welcome clients from all walks of life, who face a wide range of challenges. My approach is grounded in person-centered and trauma-informed principles, committed to creating a safe, trusting space where you feel heard, valued, and supported. I tailor an array of techniques to meet your unique needs, and together, we’ll work collaboratively, guided by your voice, insights, and personal goals, to chart a path toward healing that feels genuine and empowering.
In my downtime, I enjoy taking advantage of all the beauty the PNW offers. Wherever you are in your journey, I am here to support you. If you feel ready to take the next step, please reach out. I look forward to connecting with you!
Hi there, I am Alaina Russell (she/her). I graduated with my master's in clinical Mental Health Counseling at George Fox University. I am an Oregonian and enjoy all that our state has to offer. Getting outside is one of the ways I keep up with my own mental health.
I am passionate about working alongside people, helping them navigate through life’s challenges. I believe that we are all unique individuals who require an equally unique approach to our mental health. I want to form a collaborative relationship with my clients, as I believe that the therapeutic relationship is extremely healing. Holistic care is a pillar in my belief system, and I will always be sure to consider the whole person in therapy. I am open to working with all clients from all backgrounds, including individuals, children, and couples. My areas of interest include anxiety, depression, grief/loss, life transitions, and trauma.
I have my bachelor's degree in human physiology, leading me to a passion in mind and body wellness. I have personal experience with therapy, which led me to pursue a career in counseling. I became a therapist because I believe in people. Life is hard, and a lot of times can feel overwhelming. I believe that people are capable of adapting and overcoming, but may need some support while working through whatever is impacting them. Therapy has positively impacted my own life, showing me first hand the healing power of connection and relationship that therapy facilitates.
Humanistic therapy adopts a holistic approach, and focuses on a person's individual nature. Humanistic therapy aims to consider the whole person, while helping you develop a strong and healthy sense of self, explore your feelings, find meaning, and focus on your strengths. The three parts that make up humanistic therapy are: unconditional positive regard, empathetic understanding, and genuineness.

Hello! My name is Mackenzie (she/her). I am a counselor who is passionate about meeting people where they are in their unique journeys. My foundation in Psychology from Oregon State University and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University shapes my approach, which is as diverse as the individuals I serve.
I believe in the power of viewing people holistically, recognizing that healing encompasses every facet of one's being and that one size does not fit all. With an eclectic methodology, I tailor my approach to each person's needs, ensuring a personalized and effective therapeutic experience.
My passion lies in supporting youth, advocating for them, and empowering them to advocate for themselves. Through my varied work experiences across different systems, I've honed the skills to assist individuals in navigating life's complexities with resilience and determination.
With me, you'll find not just a counselor, but a partner dedicated to walking alongside you on your journey to realizing your goals and finding inner peace.

Hello! My name is Ashley Thomas (she/her). I obtained my bachelor's degree from Hawaii Pacific University where I studied psychology and competed as a collegiate athlete and graduated from Grand Canyon University with a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
I utilize a person-centered and holistic approach that emphasizes my clients' potential, abilities, and goals. I believe in the value and worth of each individual and hope to empower my clients to embrace their most authentic self without feelings of guilt, shame, or judgment. I strive to form trusting relationships that are built on authentic communication, collaboration, and compassion. I am passionate about working with individuals who feel stuck, lost, anxious, or undervalued. My goal is to provide a safe and inclusive environment in which all clients feel welcome and at ease. I vow to always provide individualistic care that meets my client's needs and cultural beliefs. I understand that no two individuals are the same and therefore require different therapeutic approaches to ensure my client feels seen, heard, and supported.

Hello, my name is Colby! (she/her)
I received my bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of San Diego, and I graduated with a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a specialization in children and adolescents, at Northwestern University.
I was born and raised in Oregon, and have been happy to be back in the PNW after spending my undergrad years in California. Despite being a bit of a homebody, I love to travel and experience new places and cultures. I enjoy staying active, including going on hikes, doing yoga, and playing tennis or pickleball. In my free time, I like to read, play piano, do puzzles, and play with my dog, Mia.
My goal is to provide a safe, welcoming, and caring environment for my clients. I believe in a holistic and client-centered approach to counseling, and in utilizing various theories and techniques depending on the individual client's needs. Ultimately, I would like to work in collaboration with clients to guide them in achieving their goals and improving their mental well-being.

Hey friends, I’m Ashley! (she/her)
I grew up in a little town, Yreka, California and moved to Salem after I graduated high school to attend Corban University where I obtained my bachelors degree in Psychology and Business. I recently graduated from Grand Canyon University getting my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Since I was young, I have always had a passion with wanting to help people. I just have a huge heart for those around me, no matter the circumstance or person. I have experience working with children on the spectrum as I was a behavioral technician for a couple of years, which eventually led me to begin my Masters in counseling and now, here I am!
I am interested in working with teens/young adults/adults but am open to working with anyone. My goal is to meet my clients where they are at, and to get them to where they want to be. I also believe that every client is going to require something different, therefore I am not limited to one idea or approach. I look forward to working with my clients and creating a safe-space for any and all individuals. I want my clients to feel seen, be heard and ultimately help them with their goals and reach their full potential.

Hi! My name is Asha (she/they), and I’m very excited to be working with you. I was born and raised in Menasha, Wisconsin, where I spent most of my life until moving to Portland, Oregon, to attend graduate school. In my practice, I use concepts from relational cultural theory, which tells us that at its core therapy is a relational experience and in order for the experience to be authentic both parties need to show up as their authentic selves. I strive to bring my authentic self into the therapy room and help clients discover and bring forth their authentic selves both in and outside of therapy. I believe that every person is doing the best they can with what they’ve got. My goal as a therapist is to broaden and expand on your skills, strengths, and tools so that you can live your most authentic and fulfilling life. I believe that understanding a person only happens when you look at a person's whole being; cognitively, emotionally, spiritually, culturally, and physically. My role as a therapist is to witness you and walk with you as you embark on your personal healing journey.

My main goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable being yourself—where you’re truly heard and supported. I take an intuitive and collaborative approach to therapy. I want to help you reconnect with yourself, at your own pace, and trust the wisdom that’s already inside of you.
Originally from Idaho, I spent several years moving around before ending up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. When I’m not at school, I love spending time with my family. While I’m a bit of an indoor enthusiast, I also enjoy traveling and exploring. Long walks, reading, and caring for my flower garden are some of the best ways I unwind.

My approach is person-centered, rooted in empathy, connection, and collaboration. Hello! My name is Andrea (she/her) and I’m so excited to be part of your counseling journey. I obtained my Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Portland State in 2022, and I am currently working towards my Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from George Fox University.
I chose to pursue a career in counseling because I am truly passionate about mental health, and I believe everyone deserves to live a life that brings meaning and fulfillment to them. I also believe people have the inner ability to reach their full potential, even when life gets difficult.
Although I am still developing my skills as a counseling intern, I personally connect with Humanistic & Strength Based approaches to therapy, which focuses on helping clients identify their strengths in order to build resiliency and positive change, as well as guiding clients towards self discovery, human potential, and developing a healthy sense of self. Hi! My name is Franklin (he/him), and I’m stoked to have the privilege of working with you. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, where I spent most of my life until moving to Portland, Oregon, to attend graduate school. I obtained my undergraduate degree in psychology and child learning & development from the University of Texas at Dallas. Now, I am working toward my master’s in professional mental health counseling at Lewis & Clark College.
I’m a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community. I am mixed race – Chinese and white – and my family’s cultural roots trace to the Philippines, Xiamen, and the Appalachians. Some of my favorite pastimes include watching movies, cooking vegan recipes, singing in my car, and spending as much time as I can with my dog, S’mores!
In my practice, I use a relational and systemic lens to understand my clients’ problems. The relationships and cultures we occupy are significant factors that I consider as we explore your concerns and collaborate on solutions. My approach aims to neutralize imbalances in power between me and my clients based on our social locations (e.g., age, race, gender, sexual/affectional orientation, etc.). These identities are integral to our experiences in life, informing the values we hold, the beliefs we endorse, the privileges that benefit us, and the oppression we endure. I will work toward understanding the world as you see and live in it as we share and transfer the roles of expert, teacher, and healer.
